I got together with some good friends last week and we were discussing how to navigate through hard times that linger for some time.
My friend Mandy asked “Are you ok right now, in this very moment?”
This was exactly what I needed.
When I'm in a deeply emotional or stressful state or if I feel stuck, I can often get swept away by it, I can let it consume me and take over my thoughts.
This doesn’t help, all it does is cause me to disconnect from myself.
Mandy and my coach Catherine reminded me in the same week that:
I don’t need to know the outcome.
I don’t need to have a plan in action.
I don’t need to be in control.
I don’t need to have all the answers.
I just need to take life, this journey, one moment at a time.
So pause. Take a deep breath. Check in with yourself. How are you feeling right now, in this very moment?
It's important to take time to ask ourselves, "Am I OK?" It's a small but powerful act of self-care.
Here are a few ways to connect with yourself and your emotions:
Breathe deeply. Let each inhale and exhale ground you
Tune into your body. Notice any tension, aches, or sensations
Acknowledge your feelings. Allow yourself to feel whatever comes up without judgment
Be kind to yourself. Offer yourself the same compassion you would give a friend
Take a moment of gratitude. Appreciate something positive in your life, no matter how small
Remember, it's okay to not be okay. Reaching out, being honest with yourself, and taking small steps, one moment at a time can make a BIG difference.
You matter. Your feelings matter. Take this moment to honor yourself.
