This Is What It Feels Like to Choose Yourself

ree

Let’s get something straight:

Choosing yourself is not selfish.

It’s necessary.

But most of us don’t do it.

Why?

Because we’ve been taught to put everyone else first.

To smile, stay quiet, keep the peace.

To be the “good girl.” The helper. The one who holds it all together.

You know what that leads to?

Burnout.

Resentment.

Waking up one day wondering, “Who the hell am I, and how did I end up here?”

I know, because I’ve been there.

And here’s the truth most people won’t tell you:

Choosing yourself doesn’t start with some big, dramatic move.

It starts in the smallest moments.

It starts when you say no without overexplaining.

When you cancel plans because you’re exhausted instead of pushing through.

When you stop asking for permission to want what you want.

It starts when you say, “I matter, too.”

And yeah, it’s uncomfortable at first.

You’ll question it. You’ll feel guilty.

People might not get it.

But then?

Then it feels like coming up for air after holding your breath for years. It feels like coming home to yourself.

You stop second-guessing everything.

You stop twisting yourself into shapes to fit someone else’s idea of who you should be.

You stop living for everyone else’s approval and start living by your own damn compass.

That’s what choosing yourself looks like.

It’s not perfect. It’s not always pretty.

But it’s real.It’s powerful.

And it changes everything.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to stop shrinking and start showing up fully in your life.

This is it.

You’re allowed to put yourself first.

You’re allowed to take up space.

You’re allowed to choose you.

Because when you do?

You don’t just change your life.

You teach everyone around you how to rise, too.
