Embracing the Messiness of the Holidays

This is a picture of my dog Scout and our Christmas tree because this is probably the only thing that is picture-perfect in my home and you know what? I am totally 100% good with that.

The holiday season is often painted as a picture-perfect time filled with joy, togetherness, and magic. It’s a season of sparkling lights, delicious food, and laughter echoing through the halls - or at least that’s the image we’re sold.

But the reality for many of us is far from perfect. The holidays can be messy, overwhelming, and deeply emotional. They can bring up grief for those we’ve lost, loneliness if we feel disconnected, or even anxiety as we navigate strained relationships or financial pressures.

It’s not always easy to reconcile the glossy version of the holidays with the one we’re actually experiencing.

And that’s okay.

You don’t need to have it all figured out or live up to an ideal that doesn’t reflect your reality. This season, I invite you to embrace the messiness. Show up as you are - imperfect, human, and enough.

If the thought of attending every holiday gathering makes you feel stretched thin, it’s okay to say no. If gift-giving feels like a financial or emotional burden, consider simplifying. If family dynamics bring stress, set boundaries that honor your well-being.

A heart-centered holiday isn’t about doing it all; it’s about being true to yourself.

Give yourself permission to lean into what feels nourishing and let go of what doesn’t. Whether that means curling up with a good book, sharing a simple meal with loved ones, or spending time reflecting on the year, let your holiday reflect your heart.

You are worthy of joy, peace, and authenticity—this season and always.
